APC’s acoustic calibration solution is such a relief to me since I have been long suffering from mixing in a listening room with little acoustic finishing.
Fortunately, I had heard in SineMedia's demos of their previous APC versions, from initial release to the finalizing, while in the course of its evolution it had inevitably encountered a lot of issues. Despite of my previous experience, I was still astonished by this final version (Since all previous demos were done in the recording room, so it sounded ok to me even there were some big changes between different versions).
My former speaker was a traditional two-way FocalSolo 6 BE, so there were not much obvious phase issues. Also because everyone has his own criteria, mine could be simply satisfied by adjusting the frequency of main out with ADI PRO2’s inbuilt EQ. However, due to various issues in my listening room (only treated with simple absorption to control room reverberation), I have never got my bass optimized.
Later I replaced it with Genelec 8351. However, it seemed all problems such as frequency response and phase issues were suddenly magnified. I was so troubled by these issues that even hard to concentrate on my work. As you know it could be a nightmare if your listening room is barely decorated with any acoustic finishing!
The result of APC's calibration was very impressive: there on the screen appeared a very flat the frequency respond curve. It is not exaggerated to say that APC led me out of the muddy and blur into a crystal clear world! At the same time, all phase problems were solved. Everything was back to its proper position. I can also design my own frequency depending on the genres. All in all, it is a very important product for those who are still suffering from a terrible acoustic environment. I sincerely wish that SineMedia could produce more revolutionary products like APC460R in the future!
